About

Aleksandar Oklobdžija
Belgrade, Serbia — painter
I am a Belgrade-based painter. My practice explores abstraction through rhythm, contrast, and layered gestures, allowing forms to emerge and transform within the painting process. I work primarily with oil and acrylic, supported by an ongoing drawing practice.
Artist Statement
My work grows out of the traditions of European abstract expressionism, post‑Cubist figuration, and biomorphic modernism. I build layered, interlocking forms that hover between figure, landscape, and architecture, using color and rhythm as my main structure. While these roots connect me to mid‑20th‑century abstraction, I treat the canvas as a living map of relationships—between bodies, spaces, and emotional states—where each shape feels like a presence rather than a purely formal device.
